Highway field devices are linear; star cabling is costly—prefer fiber chain/ring back to the nearest station.

Long MTTR; dig/lightning damage fiber; need remote fault location.
3. Architecture
Install 8GE+2/4SFP managed switches in cabinets for upstream/downstream fiber; copper for cameras, VMS controllers, serial servers.
